Woodworking LathesA Lathe spins material at a controlled speed so that the user can press a sharp tool against the material to shape it. Most lathes are either bench mounted lathes, or larger freestanding lathes with their own legs that can be bolted to the floor. The tool rest gives the user a solid, steady surface on which to place your hand-held chisel. This tool rest prevents the chisel from moving too much or flinging out of the woodworker's hand, thus allowing stability and accurate cuts. There two common uses with the wood lathe. Spindle turning involves setting a long piece of wood between two spindles on the head and tailstock. Which allow you to turn long tubular items like a table leg. Faceplate turning involves fixing the wood to one faceplate, which is then attached to a spindle on the headstock of the woodworking lathe. This allows the woodworker to create a product that is shorter and wider like wooden bowls which are mostly common use for the faceplate.

Woodman is a brand of Machinery mostly imported from Taiwan. In Australia there are a number of companies that import the Woodman brand forming the Woodman Group. Gregory Machinery are part of the Woodman Group in Brisbane, while the other members are based in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
The thing that makes the Woodman brand different to other machinery imported from Taiwan or China, is that the machinery is hand picked and inspected by Gregory Machinery themselves. Our experienced staff visits the factories and inspects the machinery in the line of production. It is then that a decision is made to import the machinery on the quality, reliability and value of the machine as well as the quality and reliability of the manufacturer.
Once a new Woodman product has been introduced to Gregory Machinery they are then tested again in our work shop by our technical and electrical staff.
